WATCH Video of “regular” flooding in NYC with Roger Gendron.
Flooding in our communities is becoming more common.
“Sunny Day” flooding has become more than just a nuisance.
Not only has it affected our lifestyles, but affecting the value of our properties.
Emergency Vehicles can’t come down streets, we have to live our lives around the tides and moon cycles.
Even rain events are getting larger; 60 inches of rain in Houston, over 40 inches of rain in Baton Rouge.
We need to build more resilient and fortify our communities and homes against larger storms in the future.
It’s been 7 years after Superstorm SANDY and virtually no long term mitigation measures have been implemented. We are still in the study phase.
Instead of wasting billions on rebuilding, we should be spending money to mitigate communities BEFORE a disaster. For every dollar we spend to mitigate, we save 6 dollars in future damage.
We can do better. WE MUST DO BETTER
Thank you NYC Comptroller Scott M. Stringer for putting out this video and raising awareness.
